Jacquelyn Hillios, clinician and cofounder of Phoenix Multisport, a sober and active community for recovering addicts, shares her insights on the space between detox and staying clean. Out of 23 million suffering from addiction, only 10% get help, and out of those 10% only half stay sober. Following a story about one of her patients, Jacquelyn reflects on the difficulties addicts face. Once you are out of a detox program, where do you turn? While you might have a phone full of friends that you used to party with, who will you spend your time with now that you can’t use? Inspired by a recovering addict, Jacquelyn co-founded Phoenix Multisport, an active lifestyle program for recovering addicts. In this safe community people are redefining recovery. They are not defined by their disease. With the ability to participate in activities such as mountain climbing, hiking and camping, addicts gain the confidence that is so often needed to stay sober.
