Understanding Anger in Recovery

Understanding Anger in Recovery - The Bergand Group

Understanding anger in relation to recovery is an important step. While anger is a very normal emotion to feel during recovery, there are times where it can isolate you from your support group. Excessive anger also puts your body in “fight or flight” mode, which can be detrimental to your physical and mental well-being.

Understanding Anger

Common causes of anger during recovery are:

  • feeling “let down” due to expectations that aren’t met
  • dealing with feelings that you normally would mask with substance use
  • inability to use
  • too much free time now that you aren’t using
  • being misunderstood by family and friends

Understanding anger is the first step to overcoming it.

For more information on how to deal with anger during recovery contact The Bergand Group. We offer an Anger and Aggression Management Seminar on Tuesdays from 4-5:15 pm. Our seminar will teach you communication techniques that can de-escalate aggressive behavior, assist you in understanding where your anger stems from, and provide you with helpful ways to combat your anger and aggression issues.
