Recovery from Addiction with Support System

Recovery from Addiction - The Bergand Group

Recovery from addiction is largely dependent on the support system that surrounds the patient. “Through a combination of effective medications and” therapy, these individuals can develop their best chance at overcoming the throes of substance abuse.

Avoiding Relapse in Recovery from Addiction

What are some of the more specific people or programs that aid in recovery? For one, increased education is shown to have a big impact on these individuals and on their progress within recovery. Similarly, “job skills training and linkages to employment opportunities” makes it so that the person can gradually see themselves back in the world, integrated well and working within a position that suits them. This makes relapse much less likely and provides emotional benefits to the patients.

If the individual isn’t able to live in their former situation during this process, then there are often housing options associated with the programs that they are working through. These, and even programs that don’t involve a long-term stay, utilize the value of socialization and physical activity, among other things, to provide the patient with structure. Recovery from addiction works the best if there is a strong foundation, and luckily, “environmental changes can alter the brain and increase the chances of recovery in humans.”

Another big part of what helps people to work more smoothly through the recovery experience is to foster a sense of hope and self-worth. Without this, the efforts toward recovery are obviously made much more difficult, and these barriers can actually lead to neurological remission (such as returning to previous, bad habits, as discussed in another recent post). “Providing greater availability, easier access to recovery, supportive resources, and recovery capital may not only change the minds of those trying to recover from addiction by instilling desperately needed hope for a better future, but help change their brain as well.” In short, it’s absolutely crucial that loved ones, along with professionals, work to provide the kind of support needed by the patient in order to overcome the addiction.

As with most things, this is easier said than done. There are a lot of factors that come into play when talking about a person’s recovery efforts. Substance abuse affects each person a little differently, and so a more widespread understanding of the mitigating factors is necessary. It’s almost always a combination of things that leads to the most successful efforts, so discovering what needs to be focused on is a critical piece of detoxification, rehabilitation, and beyond. Ensuring that a person will have a complete recovery isn’t foolproof, but it can all be made much more easy with the development of strong support.

If you need some aid in recovering from addiction, or if you know someone who could use professional help, then don’t be afraid to reach out. There are a lot of groups and clinics and people who not only work in this specific area, but who are committed to the care of these individuals.
