A DUI and a DWI are different in many ways, but at their core, they both mean you weren’t sober while driving. A DUI stands for driving under the influence. In Maryland, 0.08% is the state’s legal limit for alcohol. If you’re a first time offender with a blood alcohol concentration equal to this amount or greater, you’ll be given a fine up to $1000, a 12 point penalty, and possible jail time. A DWI, also known as driving while intoxicated, is a less serious offense. It exists when you have a BAC between 0.07% and 0.08%. You could face 60 days in jail and a $500 fine. If you’ve been issued with a DUI or DWI and you need DUI/DWI programs, and The Bergand Group offers this type of education.
How A DUI or A DWI Impacts Your License
You’ll face a license suspension, and if it’s your first offense, it’ll be suspended for six months. If it’s a second or third offense, your license will be suspended for more than six months. Your car insurance will also increase by a decent amount.
What to Expect at DUI Education Classes
DUI/DWI programs focus on the legal outcomes of a DUI/DWI conviction, how to stop drinking and driving to prevent another DUI or DWI charge, and how medications and alcohol influence driving along with other areas of your life. You can expect plenty of videos and examinations. It’s important that you pay attention in class rather than count the minutes until it’s over. Participation is expected. If you feel the urge to argue your case with your teacher, refrain from doing so. The point of these classes is to deter you from getting another DUI or DWI charge. They’ll also teach you a thing or two about yourself, and about how to be a better driver to protect yourself and others.
