A DUI and a DWI are completely different infractions and result in different punishments depending on the state you’re in. The similarity between the two is how dangerous they are as they put the driver, passengers, and public at risk. If you’ve been charged with a DUI or a DWI and you’re looking for DUI/DWI programs in Maryland, The Bergand Group offers them.
What is A DWI? What is A DUI?
In Maryland, a DWI, or driving while impaired charge, is considered a lesser offense than a DUI. It occurs when the driver’s blood alcohol concentration is between 0.07 and 0.08. Most drivers pass a breath test with results right below the legal limit, but demonstrate other signs of impairment, such as driving erratically or failing a field sobriety test. First time offenders can expect a $500 fine and 60 days in jail. For multiple offenders, they can expect a $500 fine and one year in jail. Those who are charged with a DUI or DWI will have their license suspended as well.
A DUI, or driving under the influence charge, occurs when the driver has a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or higher. First time offenders can expect a $1,000 fine and one year in jail. Multiple offenders can expect a $2,000 fine and two years in jail. When it comes to your insurance, you can expect it to increase by $648. Obviously, both this, and a DWI charge, are incredibly serious.
Choosing DUI/DWI Programs
The programs must be certified by the state of Maryland (or the state you’re residing in). You should make sure you’re comfortable when you choose a program, because it’s essential that you address the issues and stress you’re facing to get the most out of it. You’ll be given the opportunity to look inward and decide if you’re a social drinker, or if you have an addiction.
The Bergand Group Offers DUI/DWI Programs
Our classes are flexible and allow clients to enroll in our program when they are able to. Once enrolled, they must attend six consecutive weekly sessions to complete the program. They’ll also be evaluated for appropriate services, such as our Intensive Outpatient Program. Click here for more information!
