If you have a DUI or a DWI, whether you want to drive again or not, you are required to take education classes or seek addiction treatment, depending on your evaluation needs. If you need DUI/DWI programs, the Bergand Group offers educational classes for individuals who have been issued a DUI or DWI in the state of Maryland.
What is a DUI or DWI?
Driving under the influence is commonly known as a DUI. Driving while impaired or driving while intoxicated is commonly known as a DWI. They can be considered the same thing, but each state has different laws. This means that in certain states, one may be more legally serious than the other, but neither is worse than the other because they both put pedestrians and fellow drivers at significant risk for injury or death. In Maryland, DWIs are less serious offenses than DUIs. DWIs are issued to those who pass a breath test with results below 0.07 and are driving erratically.
A DUI is a more series offense and is issued to those who are operating vehicles with a BAC of 0.08 or higher.
How Getting A DUI or DWI Impact Your License
In Maryland, a first-time offense will require one year in jail and a fine up to $1,000. If it’s a second or third offense, expect two to three years in jail and a fine of $2,000 or $3,000 along with a 12 point penalty resulting in license revocation.
A DUI makes it difficult to get to work, run errands, attend social gatherings and will increase your automobile insurance for several years as you will be marked a “high-risk” driver.
Complete DUI/DWI Programs With the Bergand Group
We offer both educational programs and alcohol treatment programs. DUI education classes are 16-36 hours and spread over several weekends. Shorter classes will include drinking and driving anecdotes and will not require tests or follow-ups, but more serious DUI cases are longer and will require random drug and alcohol testing. In both classes, you will learn how to be punctual, how to make better choices, the myths about impairment, and how to use alcohol responsibly.
