How Can You Celebrate National Recovery Month?

How Can You Celebrate National Recovery Month? - The Bergand Group

National Recovery Month is happening now, and there are many ways you can celebrate it! Whether or not you have suffered from an addiction, chances are you know someone who has.

“According to national substance abuse authorities, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) and the Trust for America’s Health, more than 7 million Americans experienced both substance abuse and mental health problems in 2013.” Celebrate National Recovery Month to show your support for the many people suffering from addiction.

You can celebrate National Recovery Month in a variety of ways. Spread the word about mental health issues and addiction to break the stigma that surrounds those issues, or show someone you love that you are there for them. Many people refuse to seek treatment for their addiction because they are afraid of what people will think of them. In order to support those who are struggling, National Recovery Month shines light on these issues without judgment or blame.

4 Ways to Celebrate National Recovery Month

  1. Share your story! Celebrate National Recovery Month by sharing your story of recovery. Showing others who may be struggling that addiction can affect anyone will help break the stigma. Sharing your story of recovery gives people hope that they can attain sobriety as well.
  2. Spread the word. Spreading the word about this movement will help celebrate National Recovery Month. Many times those suffering from an addiction feel alone, but seeing that many people are raising awareness of addiction will help them see past the shame and guilt that they are facing and support them to seek help.
  3. Face the facts! Celebrate National Recovery Month by sharing the facts surrounding mental health and addiction. Unite people who are suffering alone by showing them that many people are facing the same adversities as they are.
  4. Seek help. If you are suffering from mental health issues or addiction get help from a professional! Each person that decides to get help for these issues is slowly chipping away at the stigma surrounding mental health and addiction.

Celebrate National Recovery Month this September and spread the word that mental health issues and addiction are things that can affect anyone. With support, and awareness, these issues will become easier to address.
