Alcoholism Fought with Aid of Supplements

Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse - the Bergand Group

What, if anything, can be done to lessen the negative impacts of alcohol abuse? According to a number of new studies, the concept of “consuming amino acid supplements as a natural cure for alcoholism and other sugar cravings” has arisen, and it’s an interesting theory with promising results.

What Can Amino Acids Do Against Alcoholism?

The over-consumption of alcohol is often referred to as a form of self-medication. Of course, alcohol abuse is hardly a benefit to one’s body and will do more and more damage over the time, contrary to it being called ‘medication.’ The truth is, though, that these substances are often ingested in place of the things that the body really needs, such as certain brain chemicals that create positive feelings that are instead provided temporarily and dangerously by alcohol.

Unfortunately, our brains and bodies can sometimes work against us. Cravings drive us to partake in things like drugs and alcohol in order to ‘feel better.’ However, the effects become less and less over time and last for shorter periods, causing people to drink more. This is when it turns into an addiction, substance abuse, and a potentially-lethal problem. It’s made even worse by the decreased production in the body of the kinds of chemicals that the person replaced with alcohol in the first place. To put it this way, it’s as if our brains might question their need to produce neurotransmitters when alcohol is seemingly accomplishing it already.

Amino acids come into play, then, when they can be introduced to replace the concerning replacements. Alcoholism and its cravings can lead to a score of harmful effects which is why they should be cut out, if possible, a goal which is made easier if there is another substance present to provide the same ‘rewards.’ “Amino acids are what your body uses to make all of its mood-enhancing chemicals.” Since this is the unspoken goal of many who overindulge, investing in supplements can make a big difference to those looking to turn things around.

There is a lot that goes into this research and way of thinking since it involves the multi-dimensional concept of brain chemistry. It may be that adding amino acids as a ‘solution’ to alcoholism doesn’t work across the board… which would make sense, considering how different people are from one to the other. Though it would be nice to have something to help at least some people, there is a lot more work to be done to determine whether this is a viable option at present.

In the meantime, there are options for those who are struggling and who need aid or guidance right now. Addiction treatment facilities become more adept every day at handling the needs of those suffering from substance abuse. Truthfully, the best option for just about anyone is to speak with your primary care doctor and then to make a decision based on your own situation. There is a variety within clinical treatment for this reason: to best suit your lifestyle.
