Addiction Treatment Ads Vanish from Google

Addiction Treatment in Baltimore - The Bergand Group

With the opioid epidemic booming, rehab and other recovery centers (or so they claim) have been cropping up like weeds. Many of these are no reputable companies, though, and “are unfit to help addicts or, in some cases, endangering their lives.” Unfortunately, as a result, Google is cracking down on advertisements for all addiction treatment centers. So, how has this affected the Bergand Group?

Fake Addiction Treatment Centers Can Be Dangerous

It’s a good thing that Google is taking steps to limit the exposure of fraudulent locations. In such a dire time, it’s really shameful that anyone would take advantage of people who need serious and immediate help, providing a false experience to those whose lives may depend on getting professional aid. Google’s steps, fortunately, will help to prevent these places from being seen by patients looking to find a center that works for them.

In the meantime, it does make things a little more difficult for legitimate addiction treatment facilities. Advertisements for any places within this industry are being heavily scrutinized and removed left and right in order to start fresh with only the true resources. “Google has stopped selling ads related to” phrases like ‘drug rehab’ and ‘addiction treatment centers,’ “although it may lift the restriction if it can find a way to weed out misleading advertisements.” In order to make it possible for anyone to create such ads, they have to find a way to keep out the dangerous alternative locations.

Though the ads for this industry can be expensive, they often pay in the clients that come through the door as a result, which is why unqualified centers have been chasing the market so fervently. The profit is much more important to them than the well-being of the patients, which goes against everything that true professionals stand for in combating addiction. It’s difficult enough these days to fight substance abuse, but now that treatment locations also have to fight against these other so-called businesses, it’s even more difficult. At the moment, without ads, it may be harder for people who really need help to find a place for them quickly.

“The crucial, if unwitting, role that Google has played in the treatment industry exposes the deep flaws in how drug addicts are cared for in America.” There are scores upon scores of cases in the country at the moment, of people who desperately need to be treated for their addictions, and yet there are problems like this that exist. Greed and dishonesty have appeared in place of addiction treatment centers that are actually geared to help patients first. “The treatment industry remains a hodgepodge of upstart businesses, with only a few well-known providers.”

Unfortunately, with the internet as ubiquitous as it is, people are searching there for aid before going anywhere else. They may simply not know where else to turn, or recognize the ease of use and availability of the web. Whatever the case, what they’re finding isn’t necessarily something that will help, since anyone, really, can write just about anything on the world wide web. If the wrong person reads the wrong information, then they could take it to heart and have more damage done to them than good.

Don’t let yourself be taken in by dangerous and fraudulent treatment companies. Instead, contact The Bergand Group.
